Viking hords or Rugby Begins

Members of Div 4 that have joined the Rugby Team

Recently our school has opened up an opportunity to play Rugby. Many kids signed up, and we play against different schools. It is a fun sport, but it is very rough! Not a lot of schools have Rugby as a sport. I think we are all very lucky at Tillicum to have Rugby as a sport.

Members of our Class who are now lunch monitors

Being a lunch monitor is a big responsibility. Grade fours have started lunch monitoring around the school in classes from kindergarten to grade three. WE have been looking forward to lunch monitoring in the classes ever since grade one.

A Writers Journey

How I Became a Writer

When I was three years old, I loved going for car rides. That was the beginning of my writing journey. I taught myself how to read by reading the street signs. Yup, that’s right! I said them out loud. So when I was four, I could read all of the street signs in Victoria! My mom was very impressed with my reading skills. She knew I was going to be an author when I grew up. She just knew. My dad taught me my art and drawing skills. Every day, we drew together at the kitchen table. We played drawing games.

Later on, when I was six, I started writing. I wrote stories. I wrote stories about magic unicorns, and best friends. I also illustrated my stories. When I was seven, I read a book with six hundred pages in it! I was very far ahead of the other kids in my grade for reading and writing. By the time I was eight, I had written thirteen stories. None of them were good enough to make it to today.

Now, I am almost ten, and I have written thirty-six stories! They are all at least eight big pages long. I divide up my stories into volumes/groups. Vol. no 1 includes the books: Sophie & Me, I Alexis C. Jones, Abby’s World, Paige + Tia = BFFS, Paige’s New Friend, Tia’s Big Break, The Catastrophe, Soul Rider, Spirit, Bringing Home Cleo, Lilly’s Cat, and Jennie’s House. I hope you enjoyed this article. By: F

Boss Left Out

It was a fun day in the class, candy and the joy of keeping our desks clean. Half of the class got their reward, but not the bosses. You would think the bosses of the "Cleaning Crew Business"would have the cleanest desks, but no. 55.5% or 15 out of 27 of the kids in the class got their reward. Well done to those students seen here in the picture getting their reward from the boss.
p.s. I don't think Mr. Wilson deserved any candy for a clean desk either.

Grade 2-3 Read For the Top Semi-Finals Team

Interviewed and Reported by H & B

A team of Boys called Thunder Readers jumps to finals winning 11-0 in today's semi-final match. Amazing performance by thunder readers. Scores here are more one-sided than grade 4-5.

The Grade 2-3 have lots of fun trying the game out. They felt very nervous. They are in Mr. Vargas’s class. They felt pride and enjoyment of being on YouTube. They were happy that the whole world gets to see their face on YouTube. They were joyful and happy that they are in the finals. They worked hard and were very happy. They were scared on the outside but happy on the inside. They are proud that the whole school will be watching them. They are happy and nervous that there will be so many eyes watching them. They read the book 11 times in total. They took part for the fun of it. They have pride that they read so many books.

Read for the Top Reflections

My team has made it to the semi- finals and I hope we win.

Read for the top is a fun competition that we do at Tillicum. Teams of 4 read books and make questions for the book. They compete in a fun competition with buzzer Boards, and scorekeepers. There are points and different rounds with different books each round. If you lose in the first and second round you get a ribbon. In the third you get a medal. In the fourth you get a special ribbon. If you win in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd you get to go on to the next round. If you win in the 4th round you get a special ribbon and a medal and you get all the fame of course. This year the semi-finals and finals/3rd and 4th round are filmed by professionals and put on YouTube. Teams also pick names like the Rocket Readers or the Bulky Bookmarks or my team the Squirmy Wormy Readers.

A Note from Mr. W

Dear Class

I am opening up the blog for you to write articles about things that are happening, create news stories, articles and features about what you find interesting about our class, our school, our community and our world. I am interested to see what 9 year old grade 4 students think, and what you will create.

I will set you to this task with a quote by one of my favorite newspaper people, Mark Twain.

If you don't read the paper your uninformed,
if you read the paper your misinformed
Mark Twain
I want you to see if you create something to keep us informed.

Of course, this newspaper blog will be done on your time, after you have finished all my assigned work. On the up side it will count as bonus toward your school marks.

Best of Luck Mr. Wilson
